FAQ

What is the North Shore Roundup?

The North Shore Roundup is an AA Convention with Al-Anon/Alateen participation. Many friends and visitors of Alcoholics Anonymous and its members also attend. There are many AA conferences held around the world, but they are not the same as regular AA meetings. Conventions, conferences and Roundups are special events which require a substantial amount of funding. The North Shore Roundup is sponsored by members of AA and Al-Anon whose home groups are in North Vancouver, West Vancouver and Bowen Island, District 18 of Area 79 of Alcoholics Anonymous. The North Shore Roundup is attended by 2,000 people, and has been held in downtown Vancouver since the mid 1970’s. The North Shore Roundup is fully self-supporting. No group monies are used to pay for this event. The costs of this convention are met through registration fees. No baskets are passed at any time.

How much does the North Shore Roundup cost?

The cost per ticket is $40 CDN (please note that service fees may apply to on-line purchases). The ticket provides you access to all meetings and dances. Children 12 years of age and younger, accompanied by an adult, are free (although seating is limited and the child may have to sit on an adult’s lap).  There is an extra cost for literature, speakers’ cd’s and other AA and Al-Anon related materials, which will be offered for sale in the lobby.

Where does the North Shore Roundup take place?

The North Shore Roundup takes place in Vancouver, BC, Canada, at the Vancouver Convention Centre East  at 999 Canada Place, just west of the Waterfront Station Seabus Terminal. The host hotel is the Pan Pacific, which is attached to the Convention Centre.

How many people go to the North Shore Roundup?

We are limited to selling 2,000 tickets and late arrivals may have to stand.  There is no “bulk” saving of seats allowed (i.e: saving a complete row for friends).  Please be considerate of others.  Past years we have been sold out Friday night or early Saturday morning.  If you are planning on attending, please buy your ticket early to avoid disappointment. They can be conveniently bought online through PayPal (under “Tickets” in the menu above) at all North Shore meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon, and at Vancouver Central Office (GVIS) phone 604-434-3933.

What is there to do at the Roundup?

Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon speakers from all over North America are invited to speak at the large meetings over the weekend. There are smaller meetings throughout the weekend with varying themes. There are dances on Friday and Saturday nights.  There are Marathon Meetings starting at 10:00 PM Friday night, running continuously, with a meeting starting every hour on the hour, until 10:00 AM Sunday morning.

Is there support available for hard of hearing and deaf attendees?

The NSRU Committee would appreciate being advised if you are planning to attend and the number in your party, so we can reserve your seat(s) in the designated ASL (front) area at the main, larger, meetings.  If you have a friend or acquaintance who can sign for you please bring them to the Round Up and we will accommodate them, free of charge.

Can I smoke at the Round Up?
